Being compassionate goes beyond showing concern or sympathy. To be compassionate, you must feel empathy for the feelings and opinions that others experience as they navigate life’s challenges. Compassion is more than simply showing that you care about someone. It also means being there to support them in times of need. Being able to see the big picture and be open to learning from others is the only way to show compassion. To me, empathy and compassion go hand-in-hand. I am determined to show compassion every day, no matter how difficult it is. To be compassionate, you must understand that everyone you meet has their own battle. This teaches me that we shouldn’t judge books by their covers. This vision helps us to be more compassionate, understanding, and loving towards others. Compassion isn’t about you thinking you are more or less than others.
One compassionate act at time will bring about a change in the world. Gandhi once stated that “we must make the world a better place” and that compassion is the key to achieving that goal. Even a small amount of compassion can make violence and hatred disappear. It doesn’t take much to think about the feelings of the person who stopped you on the road. Before you start getting mad at them or start judging their motives, it is important to look at the reasons people have for acting in this way. Although it may seem easy, compassion can make a real difference in situations such as these. Many times, tragedies happen when people reach “their final straw”. These situations can be avoided if everyone shows compassion and understanding.
