The Career Development Center offered me the opportunity to be a Social Media and Marketing internship this past fall. This internship has allowed me to grow as a person. Marketing skills were greatly enhanced by learning to promote and advertise the Career Development Center. Before I began this internship, my marketing skills were severely lacking.
I was challenged to dig deeper and find ideas that were hidden deep inside. This could be frustrating at times. By letting go of my frustration and thinking differently, I was able to overcome it. I started observing different university Career Develop Centers’ social media profiles, which gave me ideas on how to improve the Purchase CDC accounts. It could get overwhelming at times because there is so much information to be observed, but it’s fascinating to see the different ways Career Develop Centers attract their audiences. I had no idea how much detail was required to make sure that your message reaches the intended audience before this internship. The Career Development Center targets college students from Purchase College. Each post on social media had to appeal to students. It was both interesting and challenging to try to imagine myself as the audience to see how they might view a post on social media. It was interesting and challenging to imagine how the target audience would perceive a social media post. This internship has given me skills that will help in the future. I am able to manage multiple social media outlets and create engaging posts for a wide audience. Our social media-dominated age will make this a valuable skill for many jobs.
They are very knowledgeable and talented in their work. They also give generously of their time to provide information about different internship and job opportunities. The Career Development Center is one of the most valuable resources on campus because they always strive to help students succeed. I enjoyed doing Students Tuesdays. Every Tuesday, Purchase students were asked to post their basic information on Instagram, such as their name and major. They also had to state their projected graduation year. As well as asking what is their future goal and if they have taken any courses that helped them achieve this, I asked them what was their future profession. Student Tuesdays allowed me to make many connections with students who I shared a lot of common interests and memories. It is important to have a supportive atmosphere when interning. The team meetings at the office allowed us to be creative and share ideas. This was a large task and we spent many hours creating the Grad Expo. It was a long process, but it was worth the effort. It has been an exciting internship. There have never been dull moments.
This position has allowed me to be creative in a way that I have never experienced before. This internship has taught me many valuable lessons. I’m glad I was able to grow and learn so much in this job. I will cherish my memories of the Career Development Center. It was a great experience and I gained many connections.
